Program Schedule and Details

Children participate in virtual small-group, interactive sessions that integrate shared book reading, play-based learning, and guided practice. Each child’s skills are assessed to inform targeted instruction aligned with evidence-based literacy frameworks. Sessions emphasize active caregiver involvement, with structured coaching to support skill carryover at home. Graduate student clinicians, supervised by licensed speech-language pathologists, deliver individualized instruction within a supportive, engaging environment. 

Children who participate in the Husky Literacy Lab develop strong foundational skills that support future reading success while building confidence and enjoyment in learning. Through engaging, small-group instruction, children strengthen early literacy abilities such as phonological awareness, print awareness, and vocabulary, all of which are critical predictors of later academic achievement. As they participate in shared book reading, interactive activities, and guided conversations, children become more active and enthusiastic learners, demonstrating increased confidence with books and storytelling. 

In addition to literacy growth, children expand their expressive and receptive language skills, improving their ability to communicate, ask questions, and engage with others. The structured yet playful environment also supports the development of important learning behaviors, including attention, turn-taking, and active participation.  

A key component of the program is caregiver involvement, which ensures that progress extends beyond the clinic setting. Caregivers receive practical strategies and coaching to reinforce skills during everyday routines, promoting meaningful carryover at home. By the end of the program, children are better prepared for kindergarten and early academic experiences, demonstrating increased readiness, confidence, and a strong foundation for continued literacy development.
