Application Fee Payment

The preferred payment for the Application Fee is paid online by credit card.

Application Fee Waivers

Application fee waivers may be provided to Northeastern alumni and employees, current AmeriCorps program members, and to applicants that are affiliated with the Graduate Education for Minorities (GEM) Program or the Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program. Proof of affiliation to any of these programs must be submitted to the graduate admissions office for approval. Applicants that are approved for a waiver should submit the online application by choosing the “pay by check” option.

We are unable to waive application fees for programs that are part of any of the following Centralized Application Service: CASPA, CSDCAS, NursingCAS, PharmCAS, PharmGrad, PTCAS, SOPHAS.

Recommendations

Recommendation information is submitted electronically in the application. Our automated system will send a reference request to the e-mail addresses provided.

We do not accept recommendations and other documents from Interfolio.

Statement of Purpose

A statement of purpose should briefly describe what brought you to pursue an advanced education degree in your chosen field, how you view the future of your intended field of study and what you plan to do with your degree. You may include any other information that you feel might help the admission committee learn more about you.

Resumé

The most recent copy of your resumé should be uploaded in your application.

Transcripts

Applicants submitting an application through a Centralized Application System must meet the transcript requirements set by the service (typically official transcripts sent directly from the Registrar’s Office).

Applicants submitting an application via Northeastern’s application system should follow these guidelines:

  • Applicants may upload a scanned version of their official transcript or upload a web-based transcript when submitting the online application.
  • Applicants will continue to have the option to submit official transcripts, however, official transcripts will only be required when a student is accepted into a program.
  • Applicants should list the college from which they received their BS/BA under Institution 1 in the Education Information section of the application.

Once a student has been accepted and enrollment has been confirmed, international students are required to submit an I-20 request. The I-20 request is a form that is required to obtain an F-1 nonimmigrant student or J-1 exchange visitor visa to study in a US academic institution.

If you are applying as a special student, please see our FAQs and fill out the form carefully.

Can I take courses without matriculating into a specific graduate program?

Yes you can take up to 12 semester hours (sh) as a non-matriculated student. After the 12 sh you will have to apply to the specific program and be accepted to continue your studies.

*Students interested in the DNP program can only take up to 9 sh before applying.

How do I find the course I want?

Please go to the Registrar’s website for the listings of courses being offered in the appropriate semester. Select “Class Schedule” under Graduate Schools on the site (in the far right column).

How do I register for the class once I have permission to take the course?

Please fill out a special student application by clicking here to begin your application, and select “Special Student Bouvé” or “Special Student Bouvé Nursing” (if you are applying to take a nursing course), and submit all required documentation to our office. Your information will be entered in the University system and you will be notified when your account is ready for registration. The last day to submit a complete application to take courses as a special student are:

  • August 1 for fall courses
  • November 1 for spring courses
  • April 1 for summer courses (Full Summer, Summer 1/2)

Is there an application fee?

Yes, a one time non-refundable application fee is required. If you decide to apply to a program, you will not be charged again unless the program is part of the Common Application System.

Is proof of my undergraduate degree necessary?

Yes. We must receive an official transcript indicating you have received a BS/BA. A copy of your diploma may also be used to verify your degree.

Is proof of my nursing license necessary?

Yes. We must receive a copy of your up to date nursing license.

Can I be refused the course I want to take?

Yes. Matriculated students have first choice on the classes being offered. This may stop you from gaining entrance or being removed from the class if a matriculated student needs to be enrolled.

If I successfully complete these courses as a special student, am I granted admission?

Admission is not guaranteed after successfully completing the courses. Admission is based on your status in the application pool for the program of interest.

If I apply and am accepted to the program of choice, will these credits transfer into the program?

Yes, they will automatically be applied to your program. Since we offer core courses for special student status, these courses can also be transferred to another college.

As an international student, can I enroll as a special student?

International students can take online courses from their home country. They may also take on-ground courses as long as their visa allows them to study in the US.

When do courses start?

Please check the Registrar’s site for the calendar, tuition, and policy on dropping courses.
