Speech and Language Programs
Grounded in the principles of the Supported Conversation Approach for Aphasia and the Life Participation Approach to Aphasia, The Aphasia Conversation Collective provides a supported, judgment-free space for communication and connection within the aphasia community. Graduate student facilitators learn from the lived experiences of individuals living with and alongside aphasia, as well as how to support communication engagement and participation. They will develop counseling skills and practice care partner education when facilitating the care partner support group.
The Aphasia Conversation Collective offers small group sessions designed to foster community and connection among people with aphasia and a separate group to support connection and care for the care partners of the attendees with aphasia. Sessions are facilitated by graduate students who are guided by the lived experiences of participants, emphasizing supported communication and active engagement in a welcoming, inclusive environment.
Groups will be held on Thursdays from 3-4 PM
Participants can expect to gain a sense of community, meaningful connection, and a judgment-free space for conversation. Through participation, individuals living with aphasia and their care partners develop greater confidence in communication, build supportive relationships, and engage in an environment that values and supports their voice.
