Overview
Dr. Au is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in the treatment of youth and young adults with borderline personality disorder, non-suicidal self-injury, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs). As a scientist-practitioner with extensive training in suicide-focused evidence-based interventions (e.g., Dialectical Behavior Therapy, the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality, Mentalization-Based Therapy), her research and teaching aim to assist clinicians in making critical decisions when working with clients experiencing STBs. To this end, her research focuses on identifying and understanding the different clinical profiles of clients with STBs, as well as evaluating the corresponding effectiveness of various psychological interventions. Her clinical approach integrates trauma-informed and humanistic principles with evidence-based strategies. Dr. Au has trained over a thousand professionals in clinical suicidology both nationally and internationally, and is dedicated to empowering clinicians in effectively treating individuals and families affected by STBs.
