PhD

Overview

Dr. Lincoln’s research focuses on social processes involved in the development of serious mental illness, with a primary emphasis on psychotic disorders, as well as social determinants (e.g., racism, discrimination, inequality) of psychopathology more broadly. Dr. Lincoln is interested in approaching serious mental illness from a neurodevelopmental perspective, considering how the early social experiences shape the social brain, social cognition, and social behavior leading to disorders like schizophrenia. A major component of this work is considering how inequitable social structures and systems contribute to the development of serious mental illness, thus requiring an overall examination of social determinants of mental health. Finally, Dr. Lincoln is interested in investigating the role of social support as both a protective and resilience factor for children and adolescents at risk for and with serious mental illness.
