Overview
Leanne Chukoskie is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, Movement, and Rehabilitation Science in the Bouvé College of Health Sciences, and the Games Program in the College of Arts, Media, and Design at Northeastern University. Her research uses sensor-based tools to investigate cognitive and physical indicators of well-being across the lifespan.
Prior to Northeastern, she was an Associate Research Scientist at University of California, San Diego, where she was the director of the Power of Neuro Gaming Center and Associate Director for the Research on Autism and Development Lab.
Chukoskie’s research program aims to understand how sensory and cognitive process combine to generate complex and fluid behavior such as we observe in social interactions and athletic feats. Her research brings together methods from cognitive neuroscience, physiology, human-computer interaction, and machine learning to characterize human behavior during solo and dyadic interactive tasks.
Her research on gaze-driven video games for intervention and assessment has been funded by NIH to improve aspects of attention in autistic adolescents and older adults at risk for cognitive decline. Her research on motor contributions to learning and developing a supportive workforce training program for autistic young adults has been funded by NSF.
Chukoskie enjoys collaborating broadly with clinicians, engineers, and educators to expand the interdisciplinary reach of her work.
