The Bouvé College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University had a great representation at the annual American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) of Massachusetts conference this past Saturday. Both faculty and students from the Northeastern University Department of Physical Therapy, Movement, & Rehabilitation Sciences (PTMRS) received awards. Read on to acknowledge our community’s awards and honors.
On the faculty side:
David Nolan was the recipient of the Richard Kessler Memorial Award. This award was established in 2003 to honor the memory of Richard Kessler. This award honors an individual physical therapist who has given of themselves to society without thought of personal or professional gain.
Eric Folmar was recognized as the APTA of MA President 2019-2022 and for his leadership of the APTA of MA over the last 4 years, including leadership through the pandemic, legislative initiatives, and multi-organizational collaborations.
On the student side:
Miranda Duffany was recognized as the recipient of the Haley Cremer Memorial Scholarship. The Haley Cremer Foundation was founded in 2015 in loving memory of an outgoing, enthusiastic, and compassionate individual. At the time of her death, Haley was preparing to enter her junior year at Simmons College to continue her studies toward a degree in PT. She is remembered by all that knew her as someone who cared deeply for others. The mission of the foundation includes providing support for aspiring physical therapists and associated rehabilitation professionals, medical research organizations, as well as programs dedicated to healing, growing, and strengthening families facing profound challenges due to serious illness, trauma, or death. This award recognizes an individual who embodies the spirit and qualities that Haley possessed.
Emilee Wargo received the Ruth P. Hall Fellowship Award. Ruth P. Hall dedicated her career to the profession of Physical Therapy. Ms. Hall’s educational concerns, devotion to quality patient care, high standards of ethical practice, and genuine love of humanity benefited generations of physical therapists and physical therapist assistant students throughout the years. The award is designed to recognize a physical therapy and physical therapist assistant student who demonstrates the professional qualities of dedication and caring which exemplified the physical therapy career of Ruth Hall.
