The Women’s Health Study aimed to assess the feasibility, acceptability, potential benefits, and outcome trends of an intervention designed to promote the use of long-acting contraceptives among women in treatment for drug addiction. The intervention was designed to integrate the delivery of reproductive health services and education about sexual health, including HIV, at a substance abuse treatment facility. By using sexual health education and collaborating with Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) the Women’s Health Study sought to prevent unintended pregnancy and contraction of HIV and STIs with women in treatment for drug addiction.
