Overview
Dr. Heidi Cheerman is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, Movement and Rehabilitation Sciences (PTMRS) and Assistant Dean for Interprofessional Education (IPE) for Bouvé College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University. Her primary teaching role in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program include courses in neurorehabilitation and motor control, development, and learning. She received a Doctorate in Education (EdD) from Northeastern University with a concentration in innovative teaching and learning. She has over 20 years of clinical experience in the acute hospital, acute inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient settings primarily treating individuals diagnosed with neurological dysfunction.
She is an ABPTS Board-Certified Neurologic Clinical specialist, serves as adjunct faculty for the Massachusetts General Hospital Neurologic Residency program and is recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice (NAP). On a national level she serves as an appointed member to the APTA Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy Specialization and Advance Proficiency Committee and Combined Sections Meeting Committee. Dr. Cheerman has been recognized as a past recipient of the Innovation in Teaching Award in the department of PTMRS and the Rising Star Award in the School of Clinical and Rehab Sciences at NU being recognized for her excellence in teaching, scholarship and service.
Dr. Cheerman’s scholarship focus includes neuroscience, IPE, health equity, and pedagogical student partnerships. Included in her accomplishments are her peer-reviewed published abstracts / papers, text chapter authorship and conference presentations at the state, regional and national level.
