Northeastern Chapter of Industry Pharmacists Organization (IPhO) Sheds Light on Rare Cancers

August 2009, TargetCancer Foundation founder, Paul Poth passed away from Cholangiocarcinoma, a rare form of cancer affecting the bile duct. For Paul and many others fighting rare cancers, there is little to no research or funding dedicated to these types of cancers. With its mission to support, fund and raise awareness for rare cancers, TargetCancer Foundation continues to carry out Paul’s vision of providing hope for treatment options.

Members of Northeastern’s Industry Pharmacist Organization (IPhO) collaborated with the foundation again this year by attending their annual gala event held at State Street Pavilion in Fenway Park. On November 16, members shed light on the processes in cancer staging and presented on esophageal cancer, cholangiocarcinoma and angiosarcoma by providing a poster board and handing out brochures at the event.

Krystal Huey, Haruko Yamasaki, Lily Yuwei Qian, and IPhO advisor Dr. Mark Douglass interacted with guests including patients, family and friends affected by a rare cancer and learned about their experiences. The Northeastern chapter of IPhO is thankful to have had the opportunity to attend the event and help raise awareness for these rare cancers and this organization.
