Dr. Jonghan Kim Featured in May Issue of Science

Jonghan Kim, PhD, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, was recently featured in the prestigious journal Science. The research article “Restored iron transport by a small molecule promotes absorption and hemoglobinization in animals” was written in collaboration with colleagues from the University of Illinois and Harvard, as well as Northeastern graduate students Murui Han and Archita Menon.  The goal of the research is to develop a molecular prosthetic from hinokitol molecules to transport iron to where it is needed in cells. This could be useful in treating anemias involving iron imbalances in diseases like cancer and rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Kim states that, “this achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of my lab people and strong support of the department and school.” (Full Article)
