Spring Celebrations!

The Scholarship and Awards Banquet, Senior Convocation, and commencement exercises were the culmination of an academic year filled with successes, accomplishments and reasons to celebrate.  The Scholarship and Awards Convocation was held on March 15th.  Through donor and sponsor support we were able to gather students and their guests, faculty and staff, and our generous donors and award sponsors to recognize excellence in the school.  This year we were able to grant 38 scholarships to 54 student recipients. Through these partnerships and support for the school, college and university, donor contributions greatly improve the academic and professional success of our students.  We greatly appreciate the growing number of friends and colleagues whose support continues to create new opportunities for pharmacy students as they become leaders within the profession as there is a growing need for scholarship resources and especially endowed funds.

On May 5, the Doctor of Pharmacy Class of 2016 convocation and hooding ceremony was held on campus.  This year’s keynote speaker was Dr. Lawrence “LB” Brown, PharmD, PhD, FAPhA, Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Professor of Pharmacoeconomics and Health Policy at Chapman University School of Pharmacy.  Dr. Brown recently completed his term as President of the American Pharmacists Association, where he worked with Northeastern graduate Lucy West, PharmD, who just completed her own term as the President of the American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP).  Lucy was the first Northeastern University pharmacy student to hold this prestigious national position.

Dr. Brown’s main research interests are economic and clinical outcomes of pharmacists-provided medication therapy management (MTM) services, and the role of pharmacists in the US and other countries. He has a rich history of experience in the medication therapy management arena, and has a national and international reputation as an MTM expert.  We were honored to welcome him to our campus.
