Student Alum Event

Alumni Connections

On November 16 the School of Pharmacy and Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences hosted a student/alumni networking evening attended by 20 alumni and 70 students. Local alumni shared their experiences and advice with undergraduates in the B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences program, as well as Master’s and PhD students.  Many attendees subsequently connected on LinkedIn or continued their discussions after the event. Current students greatly appreciated the support and suggestions of alumni and the alumni enjoyed meeting students and connecting with some of their former classmates.

The School of Pharmacy was well-represented at the 2018 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in Anaheim, California, where the school hosted its annual “Alumni and Friends Reception.” As always, the reception was a lively gathering of faculty, students, alumni, residents, fellows, and friends, who met and shared news – nearly 200 were in attendance.  Several Northeastern students and faculty from the School of Pharmacy attended and presented their research on a variety of topics, and many faculty were engaged in recruitment activities for the Northeastern University Pharmacy Fellowship Programs.

Congratulations to pharmacy alumnus Robert S. Pugliese, PharmD, BCPS, Associate Director of JeffDESIGN at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College and Founding Director of the Health Design Lab @JeffInnovation of Thomas Jefferson University.  Dr. Pugliese received the 2018 Prescott Pharmacy Leadership Award during the Annual Meeting of the March 2018 American Pharmacists Association in Nashville, TN, during which gave a scholarly address. As noted in the program, Dr. Pugliese is a Clinical Pharmacist, specializing in emergency medicine, a teacher, a mentor, an entrepreneur, a civic leader, and an innovator.  The Albert B. Prescott Pharmacy Leadership Award is given annually to a pharmacist no more than 10 years into his or her career. The recipient delivers a lecture on issues such as pharmacy as a profession, leadership, or future trends in pharmacy practice or education.

Congratulations to Northeastern pharmacy alumnus Gary Merchant, RPh who serves as President of the New Hampshire Board of Pharmacy, and who was recently elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives.

Thanks to the many alumni volunteers who are assisting with student admission interviews for the Doctor of Pharmacy program.  This year, we welcomed several new volunteers who gathered in September for a dinner/training session, and are scheduled to assist with interviews throughout the spring.  If you are interested in learning how you can be involved in student recruitment or interviewing, please email [email protected].
