Northeastern Hosts 30th John W. Webb Lecture and honors William A. Gouveia
On October 27, the School of Pharmacy proudly hosted the 30th Annual John W. Webb Lecture Award Program. Charles E. Daniels, PhD, FASHP, from the University of California San Diego, was this year’s lecture award winner. He delivered an inspiring lecture entitled “Who will sit in my chair?” Paul Abramowitz, PharmD, FASHP, Chief Executive Officer of ASHP, offered remarks during this special program and acknowledged Dr. Daniels, and the co-founders of the program, William Gouveia, MS, FASHP, and Gerald Schumacher, PharmD, PhD, for their vision and leadership. The award was established in 1985 to recognize the legacy of John Webb, long-term Director of Pharmacy at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Director of the MS in Hospital Pharmacy at Northeastern University. In attendance were fifteen past Webb Lecture Award recipients, more than 80 residents and fellows, along with many hospital pharmacy directors and pharmacists, faculty and staff, and other friends of the school. At a special program following the lecture award, Rita Shane, PharmD, FASHP Director of Pharmacy at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, on behalf of all assembled, provided a special recognition of Mr. Gouveia and announced the establishment of the William A. Gouveia Scholarship for Student Excellence. The scholarship recognizes one Northeastern University student each year for an outstanding scholarly contribution. Jack Reynolds, who presided at the events, commented “this was one of the school’s finest moments as we were able to recognize so many legends in our profession and celebrate their sustained and valuable contributions”.
