Dean’s Message

Miriam Mobley Smith

Welcome to the relaunching of the Northeastern University Bouvé College of Health Sciences School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences newsletter. We’re so happy to be reconnecting with you again. Despite the pandemic and uncertain times throughout academic year 2020-21, we persevered and excelled. Faculty, staff, students, and alumni demonstrated a strength of purpose, resilience, creativity, and initiative that enable us to have a very impactful year at the School, as you’ll read in this edition of The Dose.

With the Class of 2021 graduating to represent us well in the profession, the matriculation of the Class of 2025 well underway, renaming as the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, creation of the inaugural Pharmacy Practice Transformation Student Leadership Program, faculty research and service endeavors, and ever-increasing recognition for our student pharmacists engaged in residencies and other endeavors (among other successes), the future could not be brighter for the School. We are also actively engaged in establishing our school Alumni Council and look forward to sharing alumni news and accomplishments in the very near future. So continue to watch our growth!

This edition of The Dose includes “first person” accounts of the School’s academic, professional and community service efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. These thought-provoking articles remind us of how important it was for us to put our students, patients, and communities first in our endeavors. We also highlight the valuable contributions to the School and profession from Dr. Gerald Schumacher, former dean, who passed away this year.

As you read this newsletter, please join me in congratulating the entire school community on providing leadership and sustained contributions — through the important work of discovery, teaching, learning and providing care — that are shaping the future of tomorrow’s healthcare every day.

On a personal note, I have felt so honored to have served as the School’s Interim Dean for this academic year. This experience has been very rewarding for me personally and professionally. As we welcome our new dean, Dr. Tatiana Bronich, I sincerely thank you for the opportunity and ask you to please join me in wishing her all the best in taking the helm of a wonderful and intellectually thriving organization.

With warm, professional regards,

Mobley Smith Signature
