We are pleased to announce the appointment of the following new faculty and staff:
Barbara Guthrie, PhD, RN, FAAN
Dr. Barbara Guthrie joined the School of Nursing faculty as a tenured Professor and Director of the nursing PhD Program. Most recently she served as the Independence Foundation Professor of Nursing and previously as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Yale University School of Nursing (YSN). Her collaborative research efforts with adolescent females has led to her receiving funding from such agencies as the National Institute of Drug Abuse, National Cancer Institute (NCI), and National Institute for Nursing Research. She has published several articles that focus on girls’ health as a socially embedded process that is influenced by their contact with the juvenile justice system. She also has received funding from Josiah Macy Foundation for her Yale Howard Interdisciplinary Health Equity Scholars’ program, and from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to implement the intensive HIV/AIDS summer institute for diverse post-doctoral fellows and junior faculty titled “Research Education Institute for Diverse Scholars” (REIDS). She received her BSN from Boston University, her MSN in family health from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, and her PhD from the New York University School of Nursing.
Courtney Lyder, ND, RN, APRN, GNP, FAAN
Dr. Courtney Lyder joined the School of Nursing faculty as a Visiting Professor. He is currently on sabbatical from UCLA where he has served as Dean for the School of Nursing. Dr. Lyder is an international expert in gerontology. His clinical research has focused on chronic care issues affecting older adults. More specifically, he has focused his attention to pressure ulcer prevention, identifying erythema in darkly pigmented skin, wound healing, quality improvement in skilled nursing facilities, and elder patient safety. His research helped shaped the U.S. government’s position on surveying their 16,000 skilled nursing facilities. Most recently, Dr. Lyder served as the lead investigator for pressure ulcer incidence and prevalence in U.S. hospitals. This work assisted the U.S. government’s decision to stop paying for hospital-acquired pressure ulcers. He has over 200 publications and has been awarded over $22 million in research and training grants. He received his BA in Psychology/Biology from Beloit College and his BS, MS and ND from Rush University College of Nursing.
Marketa Rejtarova, DNP, RN, PNP
Dr. Marketa Rejtarova joined the School of Nursing faculty as a full time Clinical Assistant Professor. She is a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) in both acute and primary care and serves as a member of the acute care PNP Inpatient General Surgery team at Boston Children’s Hospital. She has been teaching both didactic and seminar courses to PNP students in their final stages of their program. Marketa has been involved in various leadership activities including research and QI projects as well as the professional reimbursement appeal process. She became an executive board member for the Mass NAPNAP chapter in 2013 and has presented at several meetings, including NAPNAP’s National Conference which was held in Boston this past March. She received her BSN from the University of Massachusetts Boston, her MSN from Northeastern University’s PNP Program and her DNP with specialization in Advanced Clinical Practice from the MGH Institute of Health Professions.
Janet Sweeney Rico, PhD, MBA, MSN, BSN
Dr. Janet Sweeney Rico joined the School of Nursing as an Associate Clinical Professor and Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs. She has practiced in nursing homes, rehab and clinic settings, homecare, emergency, urgent care and in-patient settings. She has sought out these experiences in order to better understand the transitions of care to help change the care provided in community settings. Presently she works as a Nurse Practitioner in the emergency department at Massachusetts General Hospital. Her doctoral research examined the retention of frontline caregivers, certified nursing assistants in nursing homes. She is very interested in pursuing future research on healthcare disparities and community supports for individuals living with disabilities. She received her BSN from St. Anselm College; her Masters in Primary Care/Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, a MBA with a specialization in healthcare from Boston University and her PhD in Law and Public Policy from Northeastern University.
Jacquelyn (“Jackie”) Taylor, PhD, PNP-BC, RN, FAAN
Dr. Jacquelyn (“Jackie”) Taylor joined the School of Nursing as a one-year Visiting Scholar. Dr. Taylor is a tenured faculty member at the Yale School of Nursing in the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner specialty. She is a genomic nurse scientist with a clinical background as a pediatric nurse practitioner and post-doctoral experience in Aging. Jacquelyn received all three of her nursing degrees from the Wayne State University College of Nursing in Detroit Michigan and completed her post-doc at the Institute of Gerontology at Wayne State as well.
Gigi (Eugenia) Bleiler, JD
Gigi Bleiler originally served in a temporary position in the School of Nursing and was recently appointed as an Administrative Coordinator, Human Resource/Clinical Placement. She previously worked as a Project Manager in the Marketing and Communications Office as well as an Alumni Recruiter for the Admission Office at her alma mater Suffolk University Law School. She graduated with a JD from Suffolk University Law School in 2013 and received her BA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Lolita Hampton-Frisby, MHA
Lolita Hampton-Frisby has worked at Northeastern University as a contract hire in several departments prior to her appointment as the Administrative Coordinator for Undergraduate Programs in the School of Nursing. She previously worked as the Senior Executive Administrative Assistant and Office Manager to the Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Professional Services at Boston Medical Center. She has over twenty years of work experience in Executive Administrative roles. She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell and her Master’s Degree in Health Administration from Cambridge College.
Courtney Oliver, MEd
Courtney Oliver worked in the Office of External Affairs at Northeastern prior to her appointment as Student Services Coordinator for the Burlington Campus Direct Entry Hybrid Program. She is a “double husky” who received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education from Northeastern.
