Robert Farra joined Microchips Biotech in 2007 where he has held the roles of President and Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Research and Development. Mr. Farra significantly advanced the company’s wireless drug delivery and sensing platform, and successfully led the first-in-human clinical trial. Prior to joining Microchips Biotech, Mr. Farra was the Vice President of Engineering and Manufacturing for Abiomed leading all new product development. Mr. Farra also held senior leadership positions at Accellent Endoscopy and Arthur D. Little (ADL) where he led business development and new product development efforts for Fortune 500 and start-up companies.
Mr. Farra has numerous issued and pending patents, including those covering key advances made to the microchip-based drug-delivery platform. His product development experience includes complex electro-mechanical and fluidic-based medical devices and combination products, drug delivery technologies, implantable glucose sensors, life support systems, ventricular assist devices, artificial hearts, intra-aortic balloons and pumps, minimally invasive laparoscopic, endoscopic and surgical devices, as well as automation equipment. Mr. Farra is an accomplished technology and product development executive, experienced in developing complex medical devices, implants, and drug delivery products. His leadership experience spans multiple aspects of transforming technologies into successful, commercial products.
Mr. Farra has a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell and a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
