For over 20 years, Patricia Bourie has held leadership roles in both clinical operations and information systems at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She has blended her expertise in cardiovascular nursing with her interest and knowledge in healthcare IT, helping to ensure that IT solutions at the medical center enhance patient care, improve patient safety, and streamline workflow for staff. She helped lead work on provider order entry, multidisciplinary discharge documentation, and a variety of core quality projects. In 2012, she was named Program Director for Nursing Informatics at the hospital, providing programmatic leadership in the hospital’s ongoing IT efforts. Most recently, she helped lead the development of the electronic medication administration record (eMAR), and now one of her primary areas of focus is the medical center’s transition to a fully electronic health record. She is known locally and nationally for her expertise in clinical alarms management, and is a member of the Alarms Standards Committee of the American Association of Medical Instrumentation.
