On behalf of the Northeastern University Student Chapter of the American and Massachusetts Societies of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP/MSHP) I would like to congratulate Salima Amiji and Cate Murphy, two P4 students, for winning the local and state level ASHP Clinical Skills Competition.
Salima and Cate were successful in creating and presenting a comprehensive care plan for a complex patient case and will represent the Northeastern School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the National Clinical Skills Competition to be held at the upcoming ASHP Annual Midyear Clinical Meeting in December.
Salima Amiji and Cate Murphy were deeply honored to win the competition. Their dedication, teamwork, and commitment led to this achievement. They worked together to present their findings clearly and confidently to the judges.
They solved a complex patient case by identifying key problems, analyzing the current medication, making recommendations, and setting recovery goals. While under pressure, they synthesized patient data and developed a comprehensive care plan.
“A significant lesson I learned was how to approach each patient holistically,” says Salima Amiji. “Considering not only their immediate needs but also their long-term health outcomes.”
Salima describes this experience as unforgettable. “It was a rewarding experience, and I look forward to building on these skills in future rotations and beyond as a pharmacist,” she shares.
As part of the national competition, they will compete in a similar event against more than 145 student teams from various national, and international, colleges and schools of pharmacy.
I also wanted to thank each of the student teams that participated in this year’s event. All teams performed to a very high degree and ultimately a few percentage points separated our top finishers. The level of student work provided as part of this competition continues to be exemplary and raises the bar for future competitions.
Additionally, I would like to thank Profs. Carlson and Elijah for their time and expertise in serving as judges, along with Dean Tatiana Bronich and Dean Carmen Sceppa for their continued support of our student chapter, and all of the MSHP Executive Officers and Board of Directors, for their continued support of our students at the state level.
Please join me in congratulating Salima and Cate, as we all wish them both success at the national competition!
