IHESJR Community Service
The Institute for Health Equity and Social justice had their first annual community service day. Faculty, staff and students from the Institute community came together to provide needed volunteer services in the Boston community. This year we worked with Community Servings, located in Jamaica Plain. Community Servings is an organization whose mission is to actively engage the community to provide medically tailored, nutritious, scratch-made meals to chronically and critically ill individuals and their families.
On February 26, 2020, IHESJR volunteered at Community Servings by working in the Community Servings kitchen packing up meals for clients. We worked with other volunteers and the Community Servings staff to successfully prepare meals for the next day delivery.
We as an Institute plan to offer a service opportunity to the Institute’s faculty, staff and students each year. Participating in a service opportunity directly reflects our mission of promoting health equity and social justice and reducing disparities in health.
