About
Dr. Amy Helburn has twenty-five years of experience designing and implementing public health programs, as well as coordinating strategic planning and systems change. She has worked with diverse, community-based organizations in Boston neighborhoods, facilitating community health initiatives, enhancing coalitions’ capacity to address population health issues, as well as coordinating assessment and evaluation efforts. These experiences reinforced the importance of effecting structural change in public health through advocacy and policy, and subsequently pursued a PhD in Public Policy at the McCormack School of Policy Studies.
As a public health policy researcher, her research examines disparities in health status and outcomes related to inequitable access to paid leave, especially among women. Professor Helburn has worked at RTI International, conducting federal contract research, for clients such as ACF, ASPE, CFPB and CMS. She is also engaged in conducting applied research in partnership with senior faculty, on behalf of philanthropic entities and state governments.
