Dr. Pauline C. Hamel is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Health Sciences in Bouvé College of Health Sciences where she was the Lorraine C. Snell Visiting Professor (2013-2015) and member of the leadership team and various departmental and college committees. She previously served as Clinical Professor and Director of Clinical Education and taught in Bouvé’s Department of Physical Therapy for a number of years. Current and past courses taught include communications for the health professions, health science Capstone, introduction to college, the American healthcare system, healthcare management, geriatrics/healthy aging, health promotion, psychosocial aspects and professional development seminars. Dr. Hamel was the first Health Science Faculty Leader to develop a Dialogue of Civilizations in comparative healthcare systems and communications for the health professions (taught in London, England.) An educator, consultant, clinician (physical therapist), health care administrator and public health leader, she received her doctorate from Boston University’s School of Education in Administration, Training and Policy and also taught at BU Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (DPT program) and Metropolitan College (graduate online Health Communication program) prior to returning to Northeastern. Between 2009-2013, Dr. Hamel was the Director of Mass in Motion New Bedford and project coordinator of the CDC-funded Mass in Motion Kids research demonstration project (CORD) in collaboration with MA Department of Public Health, Harvard School of Public Health and the National Initiative for Children’s Healthcare Quality where her work focused on urban population health, clinical-community partnerships and the prevention of childhood obesity. Dr. Hamel is on the Board of Directors of Easter Seals Massachusetts. Her current interests include health communication, health literacy and the prevention of medical errors, innovation in interprofessional, global and experiential education, healthy aging, disability awareness, curriculum design, and ongoing student mentoring (including professional development, research/Capstone projects and advising student organizations.)
