Dr. Murphy received her BS in psychology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and her PhD  in industrial/organizational psychology with a concentration in occupational health psychology from Portland State University. She completed a postdoctoral research fellowship focused on occupational safety and health at Harvard School of Public Health and Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety. Her program of research focuses on safety climate, which is defined as workers’ perception of organizational policies, procedures, and practices regarding safety. Currently she is examining the safety climate of construction workers and truck drivers. Overall, her research is focused on reducing injury outcomes in blue-collar and low-wage workers. Dr. Murphy is also conducting research that concerns work and family issues, and the way psychosocial factors impact health and safety
