Dr. Emily Zimmerman named Chair of Communication Sciences and Disorders department

Dr. Emily Zimmerman has been named Chair of the Bouvé College Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) following a national search.

Dr. Zimmerman served as Interim Chair of the CSD department from July 2022‒2023. During this time, she led innumerable leadership and administrative accomplishments, including overseeing the education of the student body, mentoring junior faculty into successful extramural grant applications, and creating a sense of community and cohesion amongst faculty, which has facilitated the successful implementation of new departmental policies and procedures.

Dr. Zimmerman continues to direct the Speech and Neurodevelopment Lab (SNL), which creates assessments and therapeutic interventions to enhance suck, swallow, respiration, and neurodevelopmental outcomes. In addition, she oversees several NIH-funded projects, serves as a guest editor and editor for several journals in her profession, and is an internationally recognized expert in pediatric feeding.
