Coinciding with the recent progress in structural understanding of receptor targets, I strive to advance neuropharmacology research that allows rational drug design. Work from my laboratory encompasses molecular pharmacology, neurophysiology, electrophysiology, and biophysics to answer important biological questions by using various in vitro assays and biosensors. My laboratory tries to elucidate mechanisms for neuromodulator receptors (e.g., dopamine, muscarinic, and cannabinoid receptors) that allow discovery of unique ligands employing biased agonism or allosterism and develop novel medications for neuropsychiatric illnesses (e.g., movement disorders, schizophrenia and drug abuse.)
