Interprofessional Education: The Bouvé Advantage

The Bouvé College of Health Sciences is the largest Health Sciences College in Boston and offers undergraduate and graduate training in three schools – health professions  (applied psychology, exercise science,  health sciences,  physician assistant,  physical therapy,  public health,  speech-language pathology & audiology) nursing, and pharmacy.  Over 3,700 students and 350 faculty are engaged in interdisciplinary research and education that reflects today’s team approach to improving health outcomes for individuals, families and communities.

Interprofessional  interaction between faculty and students encourages innovation in the education of both entry level and advanced practice health professionals, and recognizes the valuable roles and responsibilities of each profession. The College actively partners with health care systems and community organizations in order to prepare the next generation of health professionals while helping address the health needs of our urban neighbors and society.

The Arnold S. Goldstein Interprofessional Simulation Suite is a premier, interactive learning environment that unifies interprofessional learning and scholarship to enable a continuum of students and health professionals the opportunity to apply and translate knowledge and skills to real world experiences.

The Goldstein Simulation Suite engages students and faculty in innovative ways to study and practice clinical reasoning skills, interprofessional education, and health system integration to promote the development of fully functioning interdisciplinary healthcare teams. The Simulation Suite enables students and faculty to research contemporary issues that solve the problems of patients and prepare Bouvé graduates to create the healthy communities of the future. We strive to develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that promote patient safety and improve the quality of health care at all levels of professional achievement.

Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice was developed by an expert panel of Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) sponsors in partnership with six associations: the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, the American Dental Education Association, the Association of American Medical Colleges, and the Association of Schools of Public Health. This document contains recommendations based on four interprofessional core competency domains: Values/Ethics for Interprofessional Practice, Roles/Responsibilities, Interprofessional Communication, Teams and Teamwork.
