Applied Psychology — PlusOne

Designed to provide evidence-based knowledge and counseling skills to students who seek entry into a PhD in counseling psychology program and graduates of baccalaureate degrees in human services, psychology, and health sciences who desire quality training in applied psychology, but do not seek to become licensed mental health counselors.

Program Overview

  • Gain core competencies in areas that follow the behavioral health lifecycle such as psychopathology, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Have a better understanding of how family systems, culture, and economic status play a role in one’s mental health.
  • Research, analyze, and evaluate key statistics and trends found in behavioral health.
  • Prepare to work in a variety of settings, such as community mental health agencies, higher education, residential facilities, forensic settings, and within healthcare organizations.

Curriculum

Coursework for the Applied Psychology masters provides evidence-based knowledge and counseling skills. Students are able to gear their studies toward obtaining a PhD in counseling psychology by taking prerequisite didactic courses throughout the program.

Program Information

  • Full time only
  • One year, 30-credits
  • Learn on campus in Boston
  • Will not lead to Mental Health Counselor Licensure
  • Fulfills all pre-requisites for entry into the PhD in Counseling Psychology program

Admissions Requirements

  • Undergraduate/minor degrees in Psychology, Human Services, or Health Sciences
  • Overall GPA of 3.2
  • Students interested in exposure to the MAP program may request enrollment as a special student in CAEP 6200, Counseling Theory in an Ecological Context, which is a required course for the MSAP program
