The main focus of the Department of Physical Therapy, Movement, and Rehabilitation Sciences is to impact the health and well-being of the global community by developing leaders in physical therapy, movement, and rehabilitation sciences through interprofessional experiential education, translational research, and excellence in clinical practice.
Our programs build on the university’s core values of interdisciplinary education, urban engagement, international knowledge, and cutting edge research. Our exceptional faculty are dedicated to promoting excellence in practice, education, scholarship, and community service. Faculty are engaged in active clinical research and practice.
We offer a number of pathways into careers in physical therapy, movement, and the rehabilitation sciences.

Dr. Chris Cesario started his clinical career in acute care at New England Baptist Hospital. Over his 8 years there, he treated patients in a variety of settings and diagnoses, including their subacute rehab unit, occupational health department and outpatient services. His primary clinical expertise was in outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine. He completed his MBA and after spending 5 years at the Boston University Physical Therapy Center, he changed careers to work in hospital administration in the Department of Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

The cornerstone of the Department of Physical Therapy, Movement, and Rehabilitation Sciences is experiential learning aligned with the mission of Bouvé College and Northeastern University’s 2025 Academic Plan. The programs within the department enhance and extend students’ learning of human movement and rehabilitation through experiential education, interdisciplinary collaborations, interprofessional education, research opportunities and a variety of global educational experiences. The Department is led by a collaborative interdisciplinary body of faculty with research, scholarship, clinical, and teaching expertise across a diverse spectrum.

The PT program at NU has been accredited by CAPTE since January 1930. It is one of the oldest accredited programs in the country. Accreditation reviews occur every 10 years to ensure quality education that meets the needs of the public and the profession. We were reaccredited on November 6, 2013 and are accredited until 2024. Students who graduate from CAPTE accredited program are eligible to sit for national licensure.
