We’re excited to announce that Dr. George Behrakis will be the speaker at the Bouvé College of Health Sciences 2023 Clinical and Practice Doctorate Hooding Ceremony for students graduating from the Doctor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs.
The ceremony for Bouvé PharmD, DPT, and DNP graduates will be held on Wednesday, May 3, at 10 a.m. in Matthews Arena.
Behrakis, P’57, H’98, personifies the Northeastern University success story. The son of Greek immigrants who worked in the Lowell mills, Dr. Behrakis leveraged his Northeastern degree to launch a distinguished career in the pharmaceutical industry. As founder of Donner Laboratories and president of Muro Pharmaceutical, Inc., he significantly advanced the treatment of asthma, allergies, and other respiratory ailments.
Today, Behrakis is chairman of Gainesborough Investments, based in Massachusetts.
An active philanthropist, Behrakis established the Behrakis Foundation in 1996 to support a variety of civic and professional organizations. He is a treasurer and trustee of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, a trustee of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Hellenic College, and the Lowell Boys Club; and an overseer of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Tufts University School of Medicine.
At Northeastern, Behrakis is vice chair emeritus of the Board of Trustees. His generous gift to Northeastern resulted in the naming of the Behrakis Health Sciences Center. In addition, he has endowed a trustee professorship in biotechnology.
Behrakis and his wife Margo reside in North Tewksbury, Massachusetts. They have four children, Elena, Joanna, Drake, and Stephanie. Drake, MBA’88, and Stephanie, AS’88, both received degrees from Northeastern.
